BLIND PEOPLE ALSO DREAM
You may find yourself wondering: do blind people dream? If blind people do dream, what do they dream about? How else do their dream experience differ from sighted people? A great deal of information is studied about the dreams of blind people, and you may be surprised to learn about the nature of blind people's dream.
➡ DO BLIND PEOPLE DREAM?
Yes, blind people do indeed dream in visual images. Dream sleep is often associated with the sleep stage called rapid eye movement
(REM) sleep. It is generated deep within the brain. As it is a function of the brain and not the eyes, blind people dream as much as sighted people would.
➡ WHAT DO BLIND PEOPLE DREAM ABOUT?
For many, it is like watching and participating in a movie that plays in their head. There may be other elements to the experience including sounds, touch, taste, smells, movements and even fear. Dreams may be in color or in black and white. More often women experience smell and taste in their dreams, while men more oftenly dream about sound and pain.
The researches found evidence to suggest the dreams of blind people are largely similar to those of sighted people, with few exceptions.
▫Blind people had fewer dreams about personal success or failure.
▫Blind people were less likely to dream about aggressive interactions
▫Some blind people seemed to dream about animals
▫Some frequently dream about food or eating.
➡ CAN THEY SEE IN THEIR DREAMS?
People who are born blind do not see any visuals, but have dreams equally vivid involving their other senses of sound, smell, touch and emotion. For people who are born with eyesight and then later went blind, it is not suprising that they experience visual sensations while dreaming. Dreams are drained from memories that are stored in the brain as well as from brain circuitry that is developed while experiencing the outside world. Therefore, eventhough a person who lost his vision may be currently blind, his brain is still able to draw on the visual memories and on the related brain circuits that were formed before he went blind.
🔴 THEY TOO HAVE NIGHTMARES JUST LIKE SIGHTED PEOPLE DO.
Researches have found that they have nightmares frequently. This is especially true for people who are born blind.
Experts believe that higher rate of nightmares is partly linked to blind people, becuase may be likely to face threatening experiences more often than sighted people.
Fact to think
It can also be difficult for blind people to accurately convey how they experience their dreams, especially if they have little or no experience of sight. But overall, the content of a blind person's dream is more likely to sighted people. They just experience dreams a bit differently.
