Psychology facts everyone should know

Learning something new about yourself is always interesting and entertaining. And understanding the psychology behind the way we behave, treat others and express ourselves can be even more appealing.
Here are some amazing psychology facts that justify why we act or feel the way we do and our responses to things that happen to us. Some of them might surprise you.

Chocolate discharges the same chemical into your body that is produced when you start falling in love.
When you eat chocolate, it releases several neurotransmitters in your brain that have a positive effect on human feelings.
One of the main neurotransmitters released is phenylethylamine, which causes alertness, excitement, quickens the pulse rate and makes you happy!
It is often referred to as 'THE LOVE DRUG' because it arouses feelings similar to those that occur when someone in love.

A hug longer than 20 seconds will release chemicals into your body that make you trust the person you're hugging.
Through the release of oxytocin chemical in the body, the brain knows that everything is safe and that there is no need to worry.

Research has found that good relationships are more important to a long life, than exercise.
University of North Carolina at chapel hill researchers found that the size and quality of a person's social ties affect specific health measures, such as abdominal obesity and hypertension at different points in their lives.

▶ Falling in love has a similar neurological effect as getting high on cocaine.
Falling in love affects intellectual areas of the brain and triggers the same sensation of excitement experienced by people when they intake cocaine.

When you hold the hands of loved one, you feel pain less keenly and worry less.
Pain can be modulated by touch. The move creates a connection between brains that can be measurably reduce physical pain being endured by one of the parties.

Being with happy people makes you happier.
This amazing psychology fact should come as no suprise.

Doing things that scare you, will make you happier.
You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, " I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along".You must do the thing you think you cannot do.

Good morning and good night text messages activate the part of the brain responsible for happiness.

▶ You can't multi-task
Don't believe the multi tasking hype scientists say, surprising psychology fact isn't it?
New research shows that we humans aren't good as we think we are at doing several things at once. But it also highlights a human skill that gave us an evolutionary edge.

▶ People who try to keep everyone happy often end up feeling loneliest.
Their happiness is making others smile. But in return people don't care enough and they feel alone.

The happier we are, less sleep we require.
Our natural emotional state changes how much sleep we need. When you're happy you don't need as much restoration because you didn't experience as much stress that you need to recover from. Our emotions are indicators that tell us how much stress our mind and body are experiencing.

Your brain does more creative work when you're tired.
If you're trying to do creative work, you'll actually have more luck when you're more tired and your brain isn't functioning as efficiently.
This sounds crazy, but it actually makes sense when you look at the reasoning behind it.
It's one of the reasons why great ideas often happen in the shower after a long day at work.

The brain treats rejection like physical pain.
We all know that rejection hurts, but neuroscience has concluded that it does in fact, literally, hurt.
While the brain does not process emotional pain and physical pain identically, the reaction and cascading events are very similar, and the same natural chemical is released during both events.

People who have a strong sense of guilt are better at understanding other people's thoughts and feelings.

▶ People with low self-esteem tend to try and humiliate others.
So they can bring them down to their level, so that they feel the same pain. They don't like seeing some people living a happy life, it makes them angry and annoyed by the fact that some people cannot understand the feelings they feel.

Smart people underestimate themselves and ignorant people think they're brilliant.
It is called the DUNNING KRUGER EFFECT, where the highly skilled assume that things they find easy are also easy for others. And the unskilled are so incompetent that they can't recognize their own stupidity.

When you remember a past event, you are remembering the last time you remembered it.
Alright, this is one of those amazing psychology fact that blew the hell out of my mind.
This is why our memories fade and distort over time.

Our emotions don't affect the way we communicate.
In fact, the very opposite is true: the way we communicate has an influence on our mood.

Human behavioural studies suggest that a person who loses their cell phone, experiences a panic similar to a near death experience.

▶ People who speak two languages may unconsciously shift their personalities when they switch from one language to another.

The important thing to remember, when reading a list like this,is you should be paying attention to know how you feel. Your inner guide will keep you moving towards a happier life if you let it.
